What is the best quiz app in 2026? There isn’t one winner. It depends on what you want the app for. For trivia, Sporcle has the deepest library and Trivia Crack is the best head-to-head game. For group play, Kahoot! is the standard. For studying, Quizlet is the most widely used. How we verify. Store ratings and review counts come from live Google Play listings, and each row shows when we last checked it. We re-checked Kahoot!, Quizlet and Trivia Crack on 21 September 2026. The Sporcle and Jeopardy! figures are from 19 July 2026.
What we tested. On 21 September 2026 we played Sporcle and Trivia Plaza in a desktop browser without signing in, and checked the current pricing pages for Sporcle, Kahoot! and QuizWhizzer. The screenshots below are from those sessions. We haven’t re-tested Trivia Crack, Jeopardy! or Quizlet hands-on for this update. Their entries rely on their store listings and published pricing, and we say so where it matters. Where we can’t verify a figure, we leave it out instead of estimating. Apps that shut down are moved to the discontinued section.

What we found. We played Countries of the World (45.6 million plays) without an account. Typed answers were accepted and scored instantly against a 15-minute timer. On the free tier the page carried display ads above the quiz, beside it and in a banner along the bottom of the screen, with a “Remove Ads” button leading to the Orange membership. Orange removes ads and unlocks the Sporcle Games archive.
About that rating count. Sporcle’s Android app has only 2,827 ratings, far fewer than the other apps here. That’s because Sporcle is web-first: its community has been on the browser site for two decades, and the app came later. We judge it on its quiz library, not on app-store popularity.
Best for: Trivia purists and niche-topic enthusiasts.

A browser trivia site with questions across 16 categories. It needs no login, scores you instantly, and loads fast on a phone browser.
What we found. We played the Mixed General Knowledge quiz (over a million plays). A round is ten multiple-choice questions with four options each, and there’s no account or signup step anywhere. The quiz page has ad slots, but the game itself is clean and fast.
About platforms: Trivia Plaza is a website, not a mobile app, and has no official Android or iOS app. There’s an unrelated iOS app called Movie Trivia Plaza, but it’s a separate, much narrower product.
Best for: Quick trivia in a browser, with nothing to install.

Free vs. paid. The free plan allows unlimited quizzes but caps games at 30 players and supports text-only questions. Pro ($39/year) raises the cap to 100 players and adds image, video and audio questions, AI question generation and individual student results (pricing checked 21 September 2026).
Best for: Teachers building custom game-style quizzes.

Often listed, but not quiz apps
Other “best quiz app” lists often include Duolingo and Memrise (language learning), Lumosity and Peak (brain training) and Brilliant (STEM courses). They’re good at what they do, but they aren’t quiz apps, so we don’t rank them here. If you’re considering a brain-training subscription, first read what the research says about brain training. People get better at the games they practise, but there’s little evidence the gains carry over to everyday abilities.
Discontinued — no longer available
We keep shut-down apps on record instead of quietly deleting them, so anyone searching for an old favourite gets a straight answer.
QuizUp — discontinued in 2021
Status: Shut down. Do not download.
QuizUp was a social trivia game with 1,200+ topics and real-time 1v1 multiplayer. At its peak it had over 20 million users. It was removed from the App Store on 20 January 2021, and its servers went offline on 24 March 2021, so the app and web service are permanently gone. Its owner, Glu Mobile, cited persistent monetisation problems: engagement was high but never turned into revenue.
