How we designed it

The kit is built around the format we use ourselves: 5 rounds of 10 questions, each round scored out of 10, with one tiebreaker held in reserve. That's the format that fits comfortably into a 2–3 hour evening with breaks for drinks and chat, which is what most pub quiz nights, house parties, and corporate trivia events actually are.

The scoresheet layout is intentional. Question numbers are on the left in a small accent colour, answer lines run the width of the page, and a tick column on the right is small enough not to dominate but big enough to mark. The total box at the bottom is enlarged so it's quick to scan when marking. None of this needs explaining to a team — the form is self-evident.

The master scoring sheet uses a dark-band header and accent-coloured totals column so the quizmaster's eye snaps to the running total. Team rows are tall enough to write a real team name into without crowding.

How to print it

• Paper: standard A4 office paper is fine. If you have heavier 90gsm stock, even better — the scoresheets feel more substantial in the hand. 80gsm works.
• Sides: single-sided. Don't double-side the round scoresheets — teams need both sides clean for writing.
• Colour: the kit uses a single accent colour and otherwise prints fine in greyscale if your printer's out of colour ink. The accent rules and totals boxes go grey but the layout still works.
• Copies: print one of each round scoresheet per team and one master scoring sheet for yourself. So if you have 8 teams, that's 8 × 5 = 40 round scoresheets plus 1 master sheet plus 1 tiebreaker reference page = 42 sheets total. Bring extras for the team that loses theirs.

Why we ship it as a PDF and not an editable doc

PDFs print reliably across every device — no Word version mismatches, no Google Doc font substitutions, no formatting surprises when you discover the network printer at your venue is a 12-year-old Konica. If you want to edit the kit (add your venue logo, change the round count, replace tiebreakers with your own), you can open it in any modern PDF editor or import it into a vector tool. The fields are blank by design so you can fill them by hand on the night.

The kit is generated from a small Node script that uses headless Chrome to render an HTML template to PDF. The full source lives in our public repo so you can fork it, change the format, or add your branding. It's MIT-licensed — use it for any quiz night you like.
